ARTISTS

Amateur artists and professional artists of all ages are now being sought to participate in the Oct. 20-21, 2007, Street Painting Festival sponsored by the Rotary Club of Oak Ridge. If creative expression using high-quality chalk sounds enticing, we have a sidewalk square reserved for you!

Festival Information and rules for Artists

  • Artist check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20; however, artists may start their chalk paintings anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, should extra time be required.

  • Art materials, including chalk, will be provided free of charge to the artist(s). Water and soft drinks will also be provided free of charge to the artist(s), however, food vendors will be on location and will charge for their concessions.

  • Artists will be provided an “Artist” name badge at check-in which must be worn where visible in order to receive extra supplies or drinks. It is requested that the badge be turned in prior to leaving the festival.

  • You may participate as an individual artist or as a member of an artist team. If you are participating as a team, please provide a team name at the time of registration or check-in, as the team name will be printed on an award certificate if the artwork places.

  • You (or your team) will be assigned a sidewalk square which will have been "purchased" by a festival sponsor. In the event that you have registered and later find that you will not be able to attend, please notify Devrin Kuipers at 599-9145 as soon as possible so your square(s) may be reassigned to other artists if necessary.

  • In advance of the festival, you will be expected to design the artwork for an assigned sponsor's square. No words or logos are allowed inside the chalk drawing, except for the artist(s) name in the bottom right corner. If reproducing an image originally created by another artist (living or deceased), it is important to credit the original artist and place the title in the bottom left corner of the painting. All artwork must be suitable for family viewing.

  • If participating as a teacher or parent sponsored Elementary, Middle, or High School team, the artwork is to be done by the students with teacher or parent supervision. Teacher or parent participation in other than a supervisory role may disqualify the artwork from receiving an award in its registered category.

  • If participating as an Adult/Child team, the adult should not contribute more than 60% of the creation and drawing of the square and must not be classified as a professional.

  • Artwork will be judged in each of the following categories: Professional, Amateur Individual, Beginner Individual, Amateur Team, Beginner Team, Amateur Adult/Child Team, Beginner Adult/Child Team, Elementary School Individual, Middle School Individual, High School Individual, Elementary School Team, Middle School Team, High School Team, and People's Choice

  • Artwork should be titled by 2:30 p.m. Sunday Oct. 21, or upon completion, as the title is taken into consideration during judging.

  • Artists will be required to have all artwork completed by 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, so that judging can take place. If the artwork is not completed, it may be possible that the judge(s) will not consider the work for award.

  • Winning art will be announced at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Oak Ridge Branch Campus of Roane State Community College.

  • Artists whose artwork placed will be invited to attend a Rotary luncheon meeting (to be held at a later date) at the Elks Lodge, 684 Emory Valley Road, where they will receive their cash prizes and certificates. Certificates will be presented for artwork placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, in the aforementioned categories with $50 checks given for People’s Choice and the 1st place artwork. Checks for teams will be made out to the Team Leader. If unable to attend the luncheon, the certificates and checks will be mailed.

Interested artists are asked to pre-register and download sign-up forms as soon as possible.
