2006 Winners

"Aslan," a chalk painting by Lesley Gaal that was sponsored by Charles W. Samuels, received the People’s Choice Award and placed second in the Professional Adult Individual category at the seventh annual Oak Ridge Street Painting Festival. Held at the Oak Ridge Branch Campus of Roane State Community College, the festival raised more than $24,000 for scholarships for Roane State students.

Major sponsors of the festival were Materials and Chemistry Laboratory, Inc., Comcast Cable Communications, Akins Crisp Public Strategies, BWXT-Y12  Bechtel Enterprise, Oak Ridge Associated Universities, Tetra Tech, Inc. and The Oak Ridger.

Some 200 artists painted 140 sidewalk squares the Street Painting Festival, organized and hosted by the Rotary Club of Oak Ridge. Except for cold temperatures early Saturday morning, the sunny weather was favorable for both artists and attendees.

The winners will receive their certificates and $50 cash awards (for first-place and People’s Choice award winners) during the Thursday lunch meeting of the Rotary Club of Oak Ridge at Elks Lodge.
